About Us
Rockville Nursing Home, Inc. (RNH) was founded in 1971 as a non-stock, non-profit nursing home with a 100-bed capacity. It was created as a Hill-Burton Act related nursing home and gave all its profits to care for those unable to afford it in our community.
Since before the doors opened in 1977, RNH was governed by an all-volunteer, uncompensated Board of Governors. An exceptional staff of professionals working in a challenging but rewarding environment resulted in RNH enjoying a sterling reputation for care and service to its residents. RNH earned top awards for state-sponsored consumer surveys for all 20 years that such surveys were done by the state of Maryland. As a small, standalone facility, the COVID-19 pandemic and Maryland’s burdensome Provider Taxes hit RNH particularly hard, ultimately leading to its sale in late 2020.
Wanting to continue its mission of service to the community, and recognizing the vital role of nurses in the caregiving industry, the Board of Governors changed the name to Rockville Nursing Home Foundation, Inc. (“Foundation”) and updated its mission to “fund[ing] scholarships for deserving nursing students committed to the compassionate care of others.” The proceeds of the sale were used to establish an organization tasked with raising funds for academic scholarships, screening and evaluating applications, and managing the disbursement of scholarships.
Each scholarship will provide up to $10,000 (up to $2,500 dollars per semester [$5,000 dollars per Academic Year]) OR up to the cost of tuition and other mandatory fees (e.g., fees which every student must pay to attend school and/or take a particular course) per semester or academic year, whichever is less. The scholarship covers tuition and other mandatory fees; costs for room, board, non-course-related fees, insurance, and other miscellaneous costs are not covered and will remain your responsibility. (An Academic Year runs from July 1 to June 30.)
The scholarship covers tuition, mandatory fees (e.g., fees which every student must pay to attend school and/or take a particular course), and up to $150 per semester for required books and mandatory course materials, subject to the $2,500/semester disbursement limit above; costs for room, board, insurance, and other non-course-related costs and fees are not covered and will remain your responsibility.
Scholarships may be accessed for a maximum of 30 months from the State Date (see our FAQs page for more).
If you are also receiving scholarship funds from one of our partners, your Maximum Scholarship could be more than $10,000.
The Board’s scholarship philosophy is to source a pool of applicants who have proven through current or prior employment and/or education in the nursing field that they understand and enjoy the challenges of this rewarding career and are ready to advance to the next level.
The Foundation is a Section 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.*
